An Absolute Must-Do When on Maui!
Regardless of your age, whether young or old, child or senior citizen, or any age in between, this activity is so much fun for everyone. It’s hard to know where to begin, because Maui Ocean Center offers everyone so much to see, experience and even taste! Yes, I said taste!
But let’s start here… with the entrance…
One of the “Top 10 Aquariums in
the World” according to TripAdvisor
Maui Ocean Center is home to one of the world’s largest displays of live Pacific corals and exhibits only marine animals found in Hawaii. Descend from the colorful Living Reef exhibits to the vast Open Ocean exhibit on a journey where encounters with schooling reef fish, sharks, stingrays, turtles, and an incredible diversity of marine life await.
Giant Humpback Whales Practically Come to Life in Maui Ocean Center’s New Exhibit
In 2019, Maui Ocean Center did what was never done before – bring guests eye-to-eye with Hawaii’s humpback whales in an immersive, 3D environment. Heralded as the first of its kind in the world, the multi-million dollar Humpbacks of Hawaii Exhibit & Sphere adds a new dimension to Hawaii’s famed humpback whale migration, enabling guests to experience a virtual encounter with life-sized whales in their own environment. Humpbacks of Hawaii was a finalist in the 2019 SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards.
Watch Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles at play in Maui Ocean Center’s Turtle Lagoon
The sea turtles at Maui Ocean Center are part of the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle Educational Loan Program, authorized by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
This program offers visitors education, interaction, and an opportunity to understand the turtle’s value in Hawaii’s eco-system. The juvenile turtles, originally hatched at Seal Life Park Hawaii, will be released into Hawaiian waters at the ages of 2-3 years.
Dive with the Sharks… Really!
Maui Ocean Center is the only place on Maui where you can swim with up to five different types of sharks, including sandbar sharks, blacktip reef sharks, whitetip reef sharks, grey reef sharks, and on often times even a tiger shark. Plus, your friends and family will be able to watch you in the exhibit and take photos.
But that’s not all… there’s lots more!
Maui Ocean Center is packed with lots of exhibits, tours, attractions, dining and shopping. And it’s been voted the best place on Maui to go when it’s raining too!
