Who We Are
Whale Trust Maui is a nonprofit whale research and education organization founded in 2001 by three individuals – Meagan Jones, Flip Nicklin and Jim Darling – with over 60 years of collective experience in whale research and marine education worldwide. WHALE TALES is an annual four-day event on Maui that brings together marine experts with thousands of residents and visitors from around the world. Scientists, photographers, filmmakers and conservationists join the public for a memorable weekend of expert presentations, hands-on educational opportunities and exciting whale watches. Whale Tales 2017 will be the 11th annual event, presented at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua by Whale Trust Maui.
What We Do
Whale Trust Maui collaborates with researchers around the world to conduct and share scientific research about whales and their ocean environment, with the vision of creating a world more knowledgeable about whales and our oceans.
Why It Matters!
Off the coast of Maui, researchers and whale watchers alike find one of the best spots on the planet to observe whales. Since 2006, world-renowned presenters have joined the Whale Trust Maui research team in Maui to collaborate and share the latest findings on cetaceans and their environment. All proceeds from WHALE TALES support whale research and education in Hawaii.
